Hailing from San Jose, Wolf Snake Sun blends hard rock, metal, progressive rock, blues, and psychedelic rock into a unique sonic wall of sound that can be aptly summed up with two words: Doom Metal.
The sextet’s characteristic sound draws influences from the world of 60s and 70s hard rock, yet is presented in a fresh, modern context. You’ll hear guitar riffs reminiscent of Black Sabbath and keyboard/organ textures that bring Deep Purple and Yes to mind. The band’s dynamic build-ups and extended jams nod to Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, while spoken and melodic vocals jump out like Jim Morrison’s with added grit. The band’s spooky, groovy and undeniably heavy style is complemented with a Southwestern flavor that creates an overall vibe akin to an acid-laden Tarantino movie.
Wolf Snake Sun is the brainchild of lead vocalist Robert Lindemann. Originally formed in 2012 with a different sound and lineup, the band released a full-length album and EP before disband-ing in 2014. With a new sense of direction, Lindemann restarted the band with a talented and eclectic mix of musicians, including Greg Metz on guitar, Edward Vigen on bass, Jeff Hurley on drums, Ashley Burma on vocals, and Andrew Rosas on keyboards.
The current lineup released a 3-song demo in the summer of 2015. Produced by Vigen, Untitled, is a concise, raw, and powerful representation of the band’s unique blend of genres. It’s also a strong calling card, which has earned the band an international distribution deal with Candlelight UK/Plastic Head Media.
The band is currently busy recording their debut album to be released in early 2016. To find out where they’re playing next and to check out what this band has to offer, follow Wolf Snake Suns’s social media pages:
Written by Stephen Dix May 30′ 2016: I’d just like to focus on a band that I’ve had the pleasure of seeing several times. That band is Wolf Snake Sun . In a nut shell Wolf Snake Son are a band heavily influenced by 70’s hard rock . They have been described as ” The Bastard Child of Black Sabbath and the Doors by way of Glen Danzig “. The band obviously take a lot of time to make sure their sound is super tight . The Rhythm section of Jeff on Drums and Edward on bass is very tight , lead guitarist Gregory Metz is one of the finest guitarists in the bay area ( and has a way of making it look easy ) . Lead Singer Rob is a living incarnate of Jim Morrison, and represents the spirit of Rock n Roll like few others can . Ashley Buurma is a second vocalist who supports Rob’s Rock and Roll growl and occasionally steps into the spotlight adding another layer to the band’s array of sounds . Aside from a hard rocking assault , the band are also one of the more theatrical bands I’ve come across . Do Yourself a favor and check them out.
